Abstract

Chamber ensembles are a valuable tool in music education. However, these ensembles are often overlooked or omitted from the school band program. These ensembles promote individual growth in multiple ways, boosting confidence, independence, reliability, and musicianship. While there already exists extensive repertoire covering the many different types of chamber ensembles, appropriate and diverse music geared towards younger clarinet trios can be very difficult to find.

In my presentation, I will be highlighting the importance of chamber music and guiding the audience through my process for creating the collection of the seven arrangements that compromise my creative portfolio. This collection provides opportunities for students to explore varying time periods, composers, and styles, while maintaining an appropriate level of difficulty. The presentation will cover the careful consideration that was taken in the pedagogical approach of each arrangement including the selection of key signatures, ranges, and articulations. Each arrangement is based on a work in the public domain to avoid copyright infringement.

Housed in an easily accessible Google Drive, the pieces are complete with scores and individual parts, and are labeled in ascending numerical order representing relative difficulty. It is my hope that the continued sharing of this collection will provide future directors with free, accessible arrangements for their younger clarinet trios.
