Abstract

For our research project, we will examine first-year student success and persistence through freshman retention rates at Arkansas Tech University among students enrolled in TECH 1013 and TECH 1001 from January to December 2025. Our poster will show our assessment of overall grades, survey data, and two shared assignments. Using the Campus Events Assignment, Week 3 Quiz, and the Skills for Success module (administered during the fall semester only), we will assess indicators of academic transition, college readiness, and campus engagement.. The study explores how belongingness, learning communities, and peer mentorship influence resilience, growth mindset, and student agency. We will also evaluate development in time management, critical thinking, metacognition, and academic identity as foundations for career readiness and holistic development. Findings will highlight factors that promote inclusive excellence, wellbeing, and experiential learning, providing a data-informed foundation to strengthen advising integration, improve the First-Year Experience, and support long-term retention both inside the classroom and across the campus community.
