Abstract

This research over the religious and political background of "Romeo and Juliet" is in the form of a unit plan, as my major is English Education. This Unit plan consists of five assessments, three of them being formative and two of them being summative. These assessments include a quiz, discussion questions, a Socratic seminar, a creative project, and a summative writing assessment. The two guiding questions to this research are: "What are the implications of the Elizabethan Era on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet?" and "Can students make historical connections and find historical context in a literary piece?"
