Abstract
The purpose of this study was to assess the effects of employing education videos in two different online discussion forums on students’ retention and transfer of knowledge of digital citizenship as well as the overall quality of their discussion participation. Participants were 66 pre-service teachers at a Midwestern university,(undergraduates and graduates). The results of the present study revealed significant and positive correlation between students’ participating in the wiki discussion method and improved test scores, retention, and overall transfer of digital citizenship concepts. Furthermore, students’ reflections indicated that it certain metacognitive strategies such as reflection, re-stating and re-teaching were important factors in helping them learn and apply the digital citizenship concepts.
