Abstract
Predicting the gender of chickens based on part weights makes an interesting assignment for students to practice classification techniques. In this assignment, students are given real data on chicken part weights (drum stick weight, tender weight, etc.) and the genders of the chickens and asked to build a model to predict gender from part weights. The assignment has been given multiple times in various forms in a junior level data mining class, a senior level artificial intelligence course, and a graduate level decision support systems course.
