Abstract
Pharmaceutical manufacturing is a major industry in the U.S. economy earning combined annual profits in the billions of dollars. As a result, the industry generates high-quality jobs in an innovative field that supports more than three million U.S. jobs in manufacturing, supply chain distribution and retail sectors (Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America report, 2015). There are over 280,000 U.S. employees working in pharmaceutical manufacturing (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2014). Many of these jobs are skilled positions that pay high wages. For example, the national average salary for a pharmacist is $120,000 dollars (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2014).
