Abstract
In this paper, the two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations are solved numerically for the fluid flow past several geometries of mitral valves in a simplified model of the left ventricle using the finite analytic technique. Solutions obtained agree well enough with experimental flow visualizations and LDA velocity measurements to warrant further work, including a more realistic model geometry and a turbulence model for the prediction of turbulent shear stresses.
